As we all know I've been catching up on all the Van Damme movies I never saw,
and one that kinda gnawed at the back of my subconsious was "Kickboxer".
I saw it when i was very young, and i didn't remember much of it, so recently i downloaded it.

Wow.
Maybe I'm just immature, or maybe I'm right, but his acting here was the best I've seen so far!
And his physique was, in my opinion, the best of his career.
I thought this was a better movie than Bloodsport, because of its varried and exotic locale, emotional plot, and the only was i think it KIND OF fell short was the fights, and not that it didnt have GREAT fights, its just bloodsport had MORE of them.
Van Damme plays Kurt Sloan, a cornerman for his brother who is a professional fighter, mixed martial arts and such. But after winning the world title, his brother gets an invitation to go to Thailand and fight their champion Tong Po.

Van Damme warns him not to fight Po, "This guy is crazy! This guy is f*cking crazy!".
But against Kurt's wishes his brother fights Po, and similar to Ivan Drago Vs. Apollo Creed, Kurt's brother gets his back broken AFTER Kurt throws in the towel (Po kicks the towel back out).
So Kurt gets his brother to a hospital with the help of a newfound ex-military friend, who also finds Kurt a trainer who lives in peaceful seclusion to teach Kurt the martial art of Muay Thai.
Of course Kurt intends to go after Po, much like Rocky seeks out a fight with Drago. But Po really cements himself as a villain by raping Kurt's love intrest, sending people to kill his friends, kill his brother and so on.
So when the final fight comes around you feel much satifsfaction when Van Damme kicks ASS!
Incredibly entertaining movie.
